Channels, roles & server assets
Back up your Discord server structure.
Your server layout is more than a channel list. Categories organize access, roles define responsibilities and permission overwrites control who sees what. Guardcord saves supported structure so you can inspect a recovery point before rebuilding.
What a Discord structure backup includes
Snapshots can capture supported categories, text and announcement channels, voice and stage channels, forums and their tags, non-managed roles and role permission overwrites. Supported active threads, custom emojis, stickers and server identity can also be captured. The bot's access and the availability of source assets determine what can be saved and restored.
- Channels and categories: supported channel settings and organization.
- Roles: non-managed roles and supported role overwrites.
- Assets: supported custom emojis, stickers, icon, banner and description.
- Threads: supported active threads; archived threads and thread membership are excluded.
Keep a recovery point before a major change
Use Backups to create an on-demand snapshot before changing channel permissions, reorganizing roles or adding a bot with powerful access. Daily or weekly schedules can keep your recovery points current while the connected bot is available. Review the snapshot after a change and download a copy if you need a record outside the dashboard.
A schedule is only useful when it successfully captures the intended server. Check the latest backup, its contents and the bot's status. A missing channel in a snapshot cannot be recovered from that snapshot later.
Preview additions and reuse before restoring
Choose the snapshot and a connected destination in Backups. The preview shows supported objects to create, reuse or skip. Guardcord reuses unambiguous existing names and adds missing objects; it does not delete the destination's existing channels or edit matching roles. Server identity is applied only when selected.
Member-specific permission overwrites are a special case. Guardcord marks and skips affected channels rather than dropping those rules. Children of a skipped category are also skipped. Recreate these permissions manually after reviewing the log, and inspect destination access before inviting your community.
Structure backup is not message or member recovery
Snapshots do not include messages, attachments or recovery credentials. They also exclude integration-managed roles and emojis, exact role positioning and archived threads. Optional message archives provide a read-only JSON export rather than message restoration. Bringing members back requires their separate community authorization.
Common questions
Will restoring a Discord backup delete my current channels?
Guardcord's structure restore preserves existing objects. It adds missing objects or reuses unambiguous matches. Review the preview and job log for anything that needs manual setup.
Can I clone a Discord server exactly?
A Guardcord restore is not an exact clone. Supported structure can be recreated, but messages, files, managed objects, member-specific overwrites and exact role positioning are excluded or require manual work.
Can I restore to another server?
You can select a connected destination you are permitted to manage. The bot must have the permissions needed to create the supported objects there.
